Fish Production Seasonality in Egyptian Mediterranean Sea Fisheries

Abstract

The problem of this study is the decline in fish production from natural fisheries, especially Mediterranean, due to many problems, including productions, administrative and marketing problems, as well as the increase in the number of fishermen and fishing units operating in Mediterranean fisheries. In line with the research problem, this research aimed to study the current situation of fish production in the Egyptian fisheries and to investigate the problems facing the development of fish wealth in Mediterranean fisheries. From the competent authorities, and preliminary data through a questionnaire form through an interview with fishermen, with a random sample estimated about 70 fishermen in North Sinai Governorate during the 2022 fishing season. The results showed that fish production from the Egyptian seas has taken a general declining trend estimated about 1.7 thousand ton, with an average amount of 113.2 thousand ton, during the period (2005-2020), it was also reported that fish production from Mediterranean has taken a general declining trend, estimated about 1.9 thousand ton, while fish production from the Red Sea has taken a general increasing trend, estimated about 170 ton, and finally It was found that fish production from the total Egyptian fisheries has taken a general increasing trend, estimated about 78.6 thousand tons, with an average estimated about 1.44 thousand ton during The same period, and the research recommends that, there is a need in paying attention to natural fisheries, especially Mediterranean Sea, and pay attention to solve all productive, administrative and marketing problems.
